Just a few update pictures
These were taken on 10 April, 2003 - and Nadia still looks good.
Nadia the Horse Thief
Here is proof positive that Nadia is stealing trace minerals from the long-suffering martyr horse, Ali. Now that we have evidence, we plan to prosecute to the full extent of civil and criminal law. Good thing Judy got a new horse - they hang horse thieves, don't they?
Judy and I took the Girls up to the Reserve today (June 11,2002). Pretty nice day for "foggy and 63 degrees", eh?
I've been remiss in updating Nadia's portfolio, so today (April 8) I went down and took some pictures while Nadia acted like a heathen child in the round pen. She was moving pretty fast most of the time, but these are the ones that were best focussed - note that I don't claim that any of them are actually *in* focus!
Over President's Day weekend, Judy and I drove up to Weed, at the base of Mt. Shasta,
to pick up Judy's new mare, Nadia (I think that's how it's spelled). We met Nadia
and Robbie, her breeder, at 9 AM and had looked Nadia over and loaded her in the trailer
by 9:30. Not bad when you consider that Nadia's first trailering experience was earlier
that morning.
These first few pictures are of Robbie, Nadia and Judy, just as N got out of the trailer -
amazingly calm, by my lights. Robbie and Judy examined her pretty closely, then took her
for a short walk to stretch a little.
After Nadia had been allowed to stretch a little, Robbie suggested that she get back in
the trailer. Hmmm. Nadia walked right up to it, then started considering her options.
Judy and Robbie allowed this to continue for, oh, 30 seconds. Then Robbie stepped into the
trailer and offered her a handful of alfalfa. Nadia is a pasture horse and isn't usually
fed alfalfa - and that was all it took - she would have ridden on the roof of the
trailer if she could eat that stuff! We took off down the road and had an uneventful (boring
by Doone) ride home.
We got back to The Ranch about 4:30. Nadia unloaded calmly, but was a little concerned
when there were still no other horses around. Judy led her up to the barn where she
felt a little more comfortable. She's now in the end stall, where Bow used to be, trying
to fit in with the extremely interested neighbors.
