Zeph Crosses the Stream

Judy and Ms L. took Zeph on an outing. They went down to the stream, crossed it stylishly, and went all the way to Smith Grade. You go, Z-man! Ms L, of course, was the MVP - she crossed the stream backwards so that Zeph could see Judy's face at all times. And so Judy could be sure that the carrot was aimed directly at his nose, for maximum horse-suckitivity.

The pictures attempt to show them negotiating the steep part of the trail to the creek, the actual creek crossing, and the one point a little further on where Z got stuck on a mud puddle. (Well, it was a big puddle.) Judy and Ms L showed wonderful patience with Zeph, and he showed excellent composure as well as an interest in trying new things: he looked like he was having fun the entire time. Big Al finished the ride a lot more stressed that he did.

Notice that the camera, as well as Nancy Dwight, loves the carrots - the flash picked them up really bright. Also, Ms L and Zeph are not hell- horses; I just haven't remembered to try the "redeye reduction" setting on the camera. The occasional furry things in the bottom of the frame are Big Al's ears. She was the Steadi-Cam platform for all this.
